Are You Lighting Your Brain On Fire (and Burning Away Your Happiness)?

Eddie Jordan, the popular motorsport executive and businessman, once made some keen insights into how talented racing drivers could sabotage their own careers with nightlife, partying, and distractions.
Jordan said in the documentary Crash and Burn:
“It’s the age old story. It’s very easy to get sucked into that direction, and still believe you’re doing the right thing for your career in racing, because why should they be connected? But they are.”
Everyday people have a similar tendency to self sabotage, as well.
Modern human beings can abuse themselves day in and day out with hyper-processed foods and substance abuse, feel horrible, meanwhile wondering why they are plagued by lassitude and discontent.
I want to understand better, but frankly, I am stunned, perplexed, and confused.
Our bodies need to be exercised, fed well, and equally well rested, in order to give us the wellness and energy we would like.
Likewise, our brains, and thus minds, also need to be exercised, nourished, and rested, too. Our brains are especially nutrient and energy hungry. Despite being about only two percent of our bodyweight, our brains consume about twenty-five percent of the energy we consume. Our brains require plenty of healthy fats, protein, vitamins, and minerals. They also don’t like being abused and depleted by junk foods, substance abuse, and their waste products.
Most people want to be happy and healthy. They want to feel good.
But when these things are missing in their lives, it can be difficult to make the connection between their everyday behaviors and their poor health.
Don’t let your brain get on fire, folks.
There’s a big connection between our exercise, nutrition, and health habits, and our capacity to feel clearheaded and well.
Miss that connection, and you’ll be sabotaging yourself just like a racing driver living the fast life off the track.
You could get lucky and get away with it. Who knows?
But for most, you’re bound to crash and burn eventually.
